Building "Cross The Bridge"

๐ Hey everyone! Welcome to the first devlog for Cross The Bridge, our new casual arcade game designed to challenge your reflexes and precision. Here's a behind-the-scenes look at the journey of bringing this game to life!
๐ฏ Concept and Idea
The idea behind Cross The Bridge was to create a simple yet addictive experience that players of all ages could enjoy. We wanted a game that anyone could pick up and play, but mastering it would take time, skill, and practice. The "stretch-and-release" mechanic felt intuitive and fun, making it the perfect core for our gameplay.
๐จ Visual Design
We aimed for a minimalist yet vibrant art style. Each level features dynamic backgrounds like mountains, forests, and deserts to keep the visuals fresh and engaging. The bridge animation had to feel satisfying, so we spent time tweaking the stretching mechanics and collision effects to make every successful bridge feel rewarding.
๐ฎ Gameplay Mechanics
The core gameplay revolves around judging the correct bridge length for gaps that vary in size. The challenge comes from requiring precision โ too short or too long, and it's game over! To keep things interesting:
- Weโve added progressively tougher levels with changing gap sizes.
- Players can unlock new characters and visual themes as they progress.
- A leaderboard system keeps the competition fierce among friends and global players.
๐ Audio
The audio was designed to enhance the player's experience. From the stretching sound of the bridge to the satisfying "click" of a perfect connection, each effect plays a role in immersing players in the game. The background music is lighthearted and fun to complement the gameplay pace.
๐ ๏ธ Challenges We Faced
- Balancing difficulty: We had to ensure the game was neither too easy nor too frustrating, especially in the early stages.
- Physics tweaking: Making the bridge feel realistic but still fun required a lot of trial and error.
- Engagement mechanics: We tested features like achievements and unlockables to keep players motivated.
๐ What's Next?
As we near the release, weโre focusing on:
- Bug fixes and performance optimization.
- Adding FireTV support so players can enjoy the game on bigger screens.
- Final tweaks to the leaderboard system and player progression.
Weโre also exploring adding new game modes and seasonal themes post-launch to keep the gameplay fresh and exciting!
โค๏ธ Thank You for Supporting Us!
We can't wait for you to play Cross The Bridge and hear your feedback! Whether you're building bridges for fun or chasing leaderboard glory, we hope this game becomes your go-to casual arcade adventure.
